All founders had a dream vision of what your company would be like when you began. You may be seeing some success but your business still is not where you thought you’d be by now. Maybe you saw yourself bigger and making a lot more money than you are today. What happened? Why aren’t you where you dreamed you would be by now?
Don’t blame yourself or all of the possible external forces that could be holding you back. It’s really not your fault!
You just didn’t have all of the information or the right focus you truly needed to grow your business and make it highly profitable.
We know building a business can be a headache sometimes, but it doesn’t have to be. When building something you may have all the parts but if you don’t have the right instructions, it is probably not going to turn out the way you expect.
So here are a few pieces of advice that should help you reach your goals.
Create A Plan
Your business should run off of a written plan. Otherwise, you are just reacting to the needs of your business, its clients, the market, and your team. A plan gives you focus on a clear direction and aligns everyone’s effort. It gives you directions for achievable results you can compare to. A plan should be very detailed and reviewed on a regular basis so adjustments can be made along the way.
Determine The Priorities
Once the plan is laid out, you should prioritize the tasks and efforts for the ones that make the biggest impact. Remember that all tasks should be leading you towards your planned goals. Try breaking the plan down into bite-sized achievable and relevant monthly and quarterly sections. Stretch your company but no need to overextend. Wins create momentum and fuel the energy.
A plan is just a dream if you don’t put action to it. This is the most important piece to any successful plan. Not just taking the action, but taking the best action with the best results that move you closer to your goals. Sometimes quick actions are better than long thought-out actions. Smaller actions when stacked can have big impact. Taking the first step is always the hardest but can get the ball rolling. Go ahead, make the move!
Get Some Help
Finally, no one has to go it alone. Get some help from professionals and advisors that can slingshot you farther than you can go alone. This is an investment in your growth that can really pay off fast. Hire some help to do the tasks that you shouldn’t be doing. Start by hiring the worker bees, not the next VP. Leveraging other people’s time is the best way add more hours to the day and get more of the tasks done quickly.
Just because you haven’t reached the dream business that you set upon when you started, isn’t the end of the world. Building a business can be hard and continuing as the status quo won’t get you any closer. It’s time to step back, re-evaluate, imagine the business you now want, and make it happen. You’ve come too far to not make it happen. You’ve got this!
